A Ruler with a Divine Assignment

Imagine this: a pagan king, unaware of the God of Israel, suddenly becomes Heaven’s chosen instrument for redemption and restoration.

That’s exactly what happens in Isaiah 45. God calls Cyrus by name—decades before he is even born—and assigns him to rebuild Jerusalem and release God’s people. Though Cyrus doesn’t know the Lord, he is hand-picked to fulfill a divine purpose revealed through the prophet Isaiah.

It’s profound when you think about it. God partners with an unbelieving ruler to advance His redemptive plan. And many prophetic voices today have echoed that same pattern, calling modern leaders “Cyrus figures” raised up for such a time as this.

Heaven’s Partnership on Earth

Cyrus’ purpose was to conquer nations and dethrone kings (Isaiah 45). God Himself declares, “I will go before you and level the mountains… I will grasp your right hand.”

That means God and Cyrus were in partnership—Heaven and earth moving together to accomplish divine intention. And through that partnership, nations shifted, walls fell, and God’s people were restored.

Promises for Cyrus—and for Us

Many believers today also claim Isaiah 45 as a personal promise—and rightly so.

Cyrus was called by name, and so are we.

Cyrus was given a title of honor, and so are we.

Cyrus was strengthened for victory, and so are we.

Yet God still said, "You do not know Me.” (Isaiah 45:4-5)

"You do not know who I am."

And in the very next verse He adds, "Through you everyone will know who I really am."

Through Cyrus, wealth returned to God’s people.

Through Cyrus, Jerusalem was rebuilt and flourished (Isaiah 44:28).

And Cyrus embraced his assignment with determination—capturing Babylon in a single night.

The Call to Pray for Leaders

Scripture commands: "Pray for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” 1 Timothy 2:2

We’re not told to pray only for the ones we like or agree with. We pray because God has divine purposes to accomplish through them. I’ll be honest—this isn’t always easy to do. But when we dig into Isaiah 45, the reason becomes clear: our prayers align earth with Heaven’s agenda.

Don’t Abandon Your Post

It’s tempting to give up—to complain, criticize, or withdraw. But prayer keeps us in partnership with God’s plan. The same God who grasped Cyrus’ hand longs to grasp yours.

He knows what’s written in your book (Psalm 139:16) and is faithful to bring it to pass.

Arise and Take Hold

Beloveds, arise. Receive your inheritance and your commissioning. Victory is in your mouth and in the palm of your hands.

Partner with God. Discover the treasures hidden in darkness—and take them back. Then, with a firm grip, keep hold of them.

God will instruct you in the next step.

He will display His glory through you.

You are His heir.

You are His rebuilt Jerusalem.

You are His temple.
