Proverbs 16:18

“Your boast becomes a prophecy of future failure…” (TPT)

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.” (NASB1995)

I love how The Passion Translation transform

a familiar verse and present it in a new way. That little twist can open a deeper level of understanding.

Recently, someone I hadn’t heard from in over six months reached out to me with a need. I had tried to maintain contact before, but the relationship felt one-sided and stagnant. The request they made wasn’t difficult—it was actually something I enjoy helping with—but my emotions flared.

Why? Because of the lack of relationship. Because of past circumstances where I had encouraged them to take responsibility, but they never followed through. The more I mulled over what to do, the more agitated I became.

Then God broke into my thoughts: “Do you do this with Me?”

Conviction. Because the truth is, many of us do. We reach out to Him when we’re desperate, but often neglect the daily relationship.

I remember being a 13-year-old Jewish girl with only a small understanding of God. My grandmother had a massive heart attack, and I prayed desperately that He would heal her. Later, I overheard the doctors call it a miracle—she was going to live. God heard me. His mercy answered a young girl’s cry. That miracle gave me faith years later to ask Him an even bigger question: “Do You have a Son named Jesus?”

So while I started today agitated, I write now with peace. God is reminding me how patient He has been with me, and He is giving me wisdom to handle this request in a way that reflects His heart.

What about you?

How is your relationship with the Father?

Do you only come when you need something?

How many times has He shown you love when you didn’t deserve it?
